The Tiger Transfer System is comprised of a steel rope cable that is used to pull a cart carrying concrete blocks across the plant. When the trolley assembly would wear out and need repair, the task of replacing the hooks along the wire would require a block tender to climb and stabilize themselves on top of a 20 foot ladder while changing out hooks on a cable that holds an electric current. Carl added a wench pulley system which allows the block tender to lower the steel cable to ground-level in order to change out the hooks; eliminating the risk of working at those heights.
Carl’s innovative ideas and contributions have made the Odessa Block Plant a safer place to work. Preferred’s approach to safety is centered on an employee-driven process where the people who perform the work have a vested interest in making sure those processes are safe. Isn’t that what you prefer?
