Safety Always

Brian Howard, Asphalt Foreman

Brian always had a fire burning for safety

A small brush fire ignited one evening nearby an active Preferred jobsite in Naples, Florida. Several crew members sprung into action by bringing out extinguishers and water to put out the flames. However, Brian Howard is being hailed a hero by his co-workers after he built a barrier around the fire to prevent it from spreading until firefighters arrived. “I jumped on the machine, [and] went back there and buried the fire,” he said. “I built a burm around it and just buried the fire because embers were flying out all over the place.” Because of Brian’s quick thinking and careful actions, the fire remained contained and the crew was able to continue working that evening.
