Regular Mixes
Most common design. Contains #57 aggregate size and typically 3
"Ready" Custom Concrete Mixes
A leading supplier of ready-mixed concrete throughout the southeast, Preferred Materials, Inc proudly offers its exclusive, custom “Ready” family of concrete mixes.
Pea Rock Mixes
Contains #89 aggregate size and typically 3
Pea Rock Pump Mixes
Contains #89 aggregate size and typically 5
Grouts
It can contain no coarse aggregate or #89-sized stones. Typical slump 8
Fiber Reinforced Mixes
Various mix types and fibers are available. Designs are based on engineer specifications and desired characteristics. Fibers include synthetics, macro synthetics, structural steel, composite, and combinations.
Uses & Applications:
Used in residential and commercial applications for plastic shrinkage crack control, steel reinforcement reductions, and toppings. Placements depend on the type of mix required.
Architectural / Decorative Mixes
These mixes can include decorative aggregates such as granite, shell, or river gravel, where surfaces can be exposed. Integral colors can be added to meet almost any selection.
Uses & Applications:
Used primarily in flatwork for slabs on grade, finished floors, sidewalks, driveways, and patios. Excellent alternative to brick or pavers.
High Slump Mixes
High-range and Mid-Range water reducers were added to increase slump without the negative strength & shrinkage impacts from excessive water addition.
Uses & Applications:
Used primarily in tight, congested areas such as columns and shear walls, when consolidation and coverage concerns exist.
Self-Consolidating Mixes
These mixes are chemically designed to flow rates based on specifications. Measured in inches of spread, typical designs are 22
Corrosion Resistant Mixes
These mixes use chemicals to resist corrosion of metal reinforcement or concrete degradation due to a high salinity environment.
Uses & Applications:
Primary applications are balconies or concrete exposed to saltwater environments such sea walls, etc.
Lightweight Mixes
Contains aggregates such solite, perilite, or pumice, specifically designed to lower the unit weights.
Uses & Applications:
The primary uses are elevated decks or balconies, where weight factors exist, but overall strength is required.
Heavyweight Mixes
Contains aggregates such as barium or iron ore, specifically designed for increased concrete density.
Uses & Applications:
Primary uses would be radiation vaults or bridge counterweights.
Shrinkage Resistant Mixes
These mixes are chemically designed to prevent dry shrinkage and allow for greater joint spacing. In some applications, all joints can be eliminated.
Uses & Applications:
Used primarily in flat, hard floor slabs such as industrial warehouses, or in elevated decks to minimize shrinkage cracking.
FDOT Mixes
These mixes are approved by the Florida Department of Transportation, and are specified to use.
Uses & Applications:
Most are specified by strength, use, and durability and cover applications such as bridges, curbs & sidewalks, road pavements, structures, and other such drill shafts.
Flowable Fills
Two types – Excavate-able and non-excavate. Typically contains sand and cement.
Uses & Applications:
Typically used as backfill, or to fill sinkholes, abandoned pipelines, and underground structures. The excavate-able types are low strength and can be easily removed.
Shotcrete Mixes
Contains a #89-sized aggregate and is designed at a very low or zero slump.
Uses & Applications:
Primarily used for pool construction, but can also be used for lining or repair applications where vertical coatings are required.
Pervious Mixes
It contains #89-sized aggregate and is designed specifically to allow water to filtrate through the voids in the concrete.
Uses & Applications:
Due to the low-strength nature of the product, this should be used in light-duty applications such as car parking lots and walkways and will require maintenance in order to prevent clogging.
